What Have You Been Avoiding?
Something you are avoiding can be a great therapy topic.
Avoidance can take many forms:
-
Times that you become irritable when someone wants you to do something.
-
Things you are not doing because you feel you need more information or more preparation.
-
Times when you are waiting for the perfect moment (e.g. the perfect moment to have a conversation).
-
Things you think are stupid (“why would anyone do this?”) but you’ve never really tried.
-
Topics you don’t talk about with the important people in your life.
Really let go and explore your feelings and thoughts about it. In your writing, you might describe this experience and ask yourself why it is bothering you so much. What is different about the things you avoid and the things you don't? Does the same thing come up in other areas of your life?
If you are using this as a writing exercise: take some time to write about it (note the writing pointers ).
